Dallas Texas

Today saw Bec and I visit some of Dallas' most significant sights the famous "Book Depository" where JFK's motorcade was fired appon by Lee Harvey Oswald, there were two X's marked on Elm Street where JFK was shot.(Had to be the dudes on the grassy knoll). We also saw a reality TV show being made at a Bike Shop called Strokers famous for Big Dog Bikes. Rick Fairless the owner has made some of the bikes shown in Easy Rider Magazine was doing his thing and was fed every word, man that seems a dumb way to do a reality show but the shop was cool. Saw some hugh statues of a cattle run with cowboys all made of bronze (each one worth $1mil US) and there was about 40 of them. The cities are huge and you need at least a week or two to see just small pieces of what's on offer xox T & B

Tony Finds A New Career in Texas

Well, Tony has found his new calling ... graffiti artist. Yesterday we went to the Cadillac Ranch, a graveyard for old cars and Amarillo's fameous 'Big Legs'. We stayed with some lovely women in Amarillo and are now in Dallas for a couple of days. Off to see the 'motorcyle haven' which is a tattoo parlour, bike shop, bar and grill rolled into one. Its raining in Dallas (we now seriously believe its following us!) but still warm. We are staying in a gorgeous home and watching the squirrels run around the garden under the Elm tree. Nice! xoxox T & B

Southwest or Bust

Today we went to Old town Albuquerque ... loved it! We watched the Mariachi Band and attended part of a Southwest wedding in the gorgeous Adobe style church. Tonight we went to a Santa Fe style Hawaiian wedding reception and are now sitting chewing the fat with our fantastic New Mexico hosts and friends. There is a gorgeous full moon, warm breeze and animated conversation (Alan is a movie star after all!). Its been such a treat and we will really miss this part of the world and its fabulous people. Tommorrow we are off to Amarillo, then to Dallas.. xoxx T & B

Amazing Alburquerque

Just arrived in Albuquerque after a loooooong drive. Along the way we stopped off at the World’s largest piece of Petrified Wood and, of course, Winslow Arizona. The distances are bigger than we first expected and there is so much to see. We will back-track some parts (like Gallup) which we didnt get to make. We found our new adode style ‘couch’ whose owners are wonderful people -- a retired Colonel Dan and his gorgeous wife Vikki, who was the first woman to qualify for a combat squadron in the US. We ate stuffed jalpenos with their friends under the cabanna and feel very ‘Santa Fe’. Tommorrow we are off to Old Town and then to a Hawaiian themed wedding reception with Dan, Vikki and their friend Alan (who is hilarious). We are having a blast as we travel down Route 66 and its been go, go, gomez... xoxo T & B

Fantastic Flagstaff

We arrived at Flagstaff yesterday to be met by a cool alpine breeze and gorgeous fir trees. After walking around historic Williams in the afternoon, we hit the Flagstaff music scene with fellow couch surfer Ken. Flagstaff is so relaxed and we are already feeling like we dont want to leave. Tony is asleep on a day bed and I am writing on the porch watching the sun set... doen’t get any better than this!.We got back from our night out in Flagstaff, which was very cool. Saw a bit of live music, ate in an American Diner and hung out with Ken, a music major from Memphis. Ken serenaded us with his trumpet this morning and we all sat up talking and laughing with host Lynn, who is the ultimate Earth Goddess. Bec fell in love with her home which is surrounded by petrified wood, crystals and good karma. We’re off to “stand on a corner in Winslow Arizona” tomorrow and visit New Mexico. Until then, xoxoxo with chilli fries.

Hasta la Vista Vegas

Last night we experienced Freemont Street with its spectacular $55 million light show and tribute to 60s and 70s music. What a night! Tony got the Vegas welcome from some showgirls and we danced to Eagles and Creedance tribute bands. We had our photo taken with $1 million cash, saw the world’s largest gold nugget and a swimming pool with a shark tank centre. Freemont Street was the old Las Vegas strip and casinos which we remembered from Saturday Elvis matinee’s. Just fabulous! Now we are on the road to Flagstaff via the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Thank god we got a van, as its almost full of stuff already. Hoover Dam is amazing, mostly to see the drop in water levels on the canyon walls. The region is pretty arid, littered with inspection stations searching for illegal immigrants. Its 39 degrees already and its only mid morning! Texas is another 10 degrees hotter still. Most Americans think we mad to be heading there at this time of year! Luckily we are able to stay with people in Flagstaff, Albuquerque and Amarillo (the Texans are even hosting a dinner party for us!). Hopefully there will be a Walmart there, we are already having withdrawls...

Leaving Las Vegas, almost

Well we arrived at Sin City to be greeted by poker machines at the airport and 40 degree heat!. After a day at the DMV (where we sure they were saying "we are now herding" rather than "we are now serving") we have a car that we can sleep in with fabulous Nevada plates. In between sorting out the car, phone, tyres we travelled up to the 107th floor of the stratosphere tower to take in the bright lights of this big city and are probably the only people in Las Vegas who have not played the "slot machines". We are, however, aiming for the international travel record for time spent in Walmart. With camping gear and a new GPS (halleluiah) we will be hitting the road on Thursday towards the Grand Canyon. Until then, take good care. Love and missing kisses, T & B

Lesson #1...Never drive in LA without a GPS

Having survived the flight (which didnt have a free seat except in the loo), in a moment of jetlagged insanity we drove a Dodge Charger around the freeways of LA in complete confusion and occassional terror. Coming back to our senses (and Hertz) we got a smaller car with GPS and made it to our destination ... Bartlets Harley Davidson, Marina Del Ray.

With a car, and a nights sleep, we've been to Crenshaw and Malibu (just to see the extreme ends of LA), passed the Le Brea Tar Pits at night and the Resivoir Dogs cafe. Today Tony struck up a conversation and got biker bar tips from actor Ricky Shroeder ('the Champ'). We hit Venice beach this morning, Santa Monica yesterday and apparently ate in one of LA's top 10 diners last night.

Our couch surfing started well when Bec mixed up the address, with a door answered 'Steve who???'. All worked out well, and we have a bed with a buffulo skin on it bigger than us both (sorry Sarah!).

Thanks for all the birthday well wishes for Tony! We are working out the phone and should email a number out tomorrow for those who need/want it. Until next time, take care and lots of super sized luvvvvv xox T& B
